แนวการตกแต่งแบบ Industrial นี้ เป็นรูปแบบที่เกิดขึ้นราวปีค.ศ. 1970 ในนิวยอร์ก ซึ่งรูปแบบของการตกแต่งจะเป็นลักษณะลอฟต์ มีลักษณะเหมือนโรงงาน หรือโกดัง ซึ่งมีพื้นที่โล่ง มีการโชว์โครงสร้างซึ่งโดยรวมแล้วเน้นการโชว์เนื้อแท้ของวัสดุอุปกรณ์ให้เห็นขั้นตอนการเดินท่อ ลักษณะการจัดวางแบบ open space ถ้าจะให้นึกถึงภาพที่ชัดเจนขึ้น ให้นึกถึง ศิลปินวาดภาพที่มีสตูดิโอเขียนภาพ โครงสร้างโดยรวมจะเป็นเหล็กกับกระจก มีแสงผ่านเข้ามา พวกเครื่องเรือนจะมีการผสมผสานระหว่างยุคเข้าไว้ด้วยกัน การใช้โซฟา บุหนังแท้กับหีบเหล็ก โคมไฟรูปแบบเรียบง่าย โดยยึดโครงรูปทรงเรขาคณิตเป็นหลัก อีกอย่างที่เป็นเสน่ห์ของรูปแบบนี้ก็คือ การโชว์ผนังเปลือยหรือโชว์แนวก่ออิฐเก่าๆ ให้มีลักษณะเหมือนโรงงาน ปัจจุบันนี้มีผู้นิยมตกแต่งแบบ Industrial Style ในคอนโดมิเนียม ซึ่งได้อารมณ์ของความเป็น Industrial เนื่องจากมีงานระบบโชว์อยู่ให้เห็น เป็นการสร้างความสมบูรณ์ให้กับงานตกแต่ง

แนวทางสำหรับการตกแต่ง ต้องไม่ปิดฝ้าเพดาน โชว์ความเติบของโครงสร้าง ถ้าเป็นพื้นไม้เดิมต้องขัดลอกผิวเดิมออกแล้วเคลือบผิวแบบด้าน หรือทาสีดำ รูปแบบของโคมไฟมีลักษณะกึ่งใช้ภายนอก มีโลหะผสมเป็นอุปกรณ์ เฟรมประตู หน้าต่าง หรือผนังกั้นห้องเป็นเหล็กกับกระจกใส เฟอร์นิเจอร์ประเภทโลหะในยุค 50s-70s หรือผสมกับตู้แบบเรโทร การบุโซฟาด้วยหนังแท้ สีน้ำตาล หรือกำมะหยี่ ก็สามารถบ่งบอกความมีรสนิยมได้

Industrial style decoration was born in New York in 1970 approximately. It is called ’Loft’ design as it looks like the design of plants or storages where there is plenty of space. The bare-structure design shows  real materials, mostly are metal and glass, and plumbing. The ‘Open space’ position builds up an image of a painter in his studio. There are clerestories to let natural light in. Furniture can be of any styles but in a compatible way. Real leather sofas, metal chests and simple looking lamps can be found in this style. All these are dominated by geometric by geometric shapes. Another attractive feature is bare walls displaying aged brick wall texture to get the look of plants. Currently, there are some residents adapting this style to their condominium which the industrial style still can be reserved. This is because that bare structure can make a perfect decoration.

There is no need to seal ceilings. This is to show a tough look of bare structure. If there is any existing wood floor, it needs to be peeled off and have a matt surface coating or matt black paint. Semi-outdoor lamps with partial metal components, door frames and partitions made by metal and clear glass, metal furniture from ‘50s to 70s’  accompanied by retro cabinets, brownish real leather or velvet sofas are all tasteful turniture.
